Result description
The Source Attribution and Mitigation service comprises two components: Source Attribution, revealing dominant source sectors and regions contributing to pollution, and Mitigation, offering insights into potential pollution reduction through emission cuts. This prototype, established in Chile and the US, allows users to select locations and pollutants, view timeseries, and allocate sources using regional models. For PM2.5/PM10, NO2, SO2, CO, different models provide insights. The Mitigation part lets users adjust sliders for emission reductions and visualize resultant concentration changes. This innovative tool empowers users to comprehend pollution sources, quantify their impacts, and strategize efficient mitigation measures.

The level of expertise required to operate and maintained the system is very high. Thus the transfer of technology, even accompanied by capacity building actions, is not suitable. The consortium is now in contact with third-parties that could potentially act as “exploiter”. The partners would provide expertise through service contracts with the exploiter(s).
Depending on its available resources and level of expertise, the future exploiters may decide to take over the activities at different stages of the value-chains.
Basically, the AQ-WATCH module value-chains can be simplified into 4 main steps: (1) Collect and treat data, (2) Run the models, (3) Map the results and (4) provide access through a user interface.
Depending on the wishes of the consortium partners and future exploiter, the exploiter may fully takeover some of the steps but also contract some partners to obtain the dataset for example.

The system is up and running. Adaptations may be needed to meet the requirements of the co-exploiter.
Module 2’s replicability stems from its adaptable structure and reliance on established models. The integration of regional CTMs and emissions data makes the approach adaptable to various geographical contexts. The reliance on well-documented models enhances its replicability, and the source attribution and mitigation framework can be extended to accommodate additional pollutants and regions. The modular design allows customization to meet specific user needs, fostering its replication across diverse settings and enabling stakeholders to tailor the tool to address their unique air quality challenges.
