A new product was developed as potential multi-mycotoxin adsorbent. This product was evaluated in vitro at different pH values simulating those encountered in the GI tract of animals. Then, the efficacy of the additive in adsorbing mycotoxins was confirmed in vivo in short-term toxicokinetic studies with rats and piglets. Mycotoxins, with or without the detoxifier, were administered by a single oral intragastric bolus and their metabolites were determined in urine of rats and plasma of piglets. The reduction of mycotoxins and metabolites in urine and plasma confirmed that a reduction of mycotoxins systemic exposure occurred in presence of the additive.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
Production of the new feed additive for multi-mycotoxin adsorption is being optimized at pilot scale. In vivo trials are ongoing to confirm dosage and way of use. Next step is the scale-up at industrial level, EFSA evaluation for efficacy and safety, and then market launch.
The use of the feed additive can be replicated in different animals, monogastrics and ruminants, to help to reduce and prevent toxic effects ot mycotoxins. Depending on the mycotoxin contamination and the specie, adjustments on the additive dosage can be made.
